There hasn’t been a ball kicked in anger yet and there’s already so much negative controversy surrounding Ukraine and Poland’s 2012 competition.
“Uefa has confirmed there were “isolated incidents of racist chanting” aimed at Netherlands players during an open training session.
But the governing body has not revealed whether it is investigating the incident in Krakow, Poland.
Dutch captain Mark van Bommel said monkey chants were directed at players.”
The fear of racist violence and lack of authorities control over it is so bad that non-white English fans have been advised by Sol Campbell not to travel or they might be returning in a coffin.
“Manchester City and Italy striker Mario Balotelli has threatened to walk off the pitch if he is racially abused at Euro 2012, which kicks off next week,” and was promptly threatened with being penalised by Platini. Balotelli has, lets say, interesting history when it come to discipline and the media however if he walked off the pitch as a result of being racially abused, I for one would support him - as I will anyone in the competition. It should be unacceptable in this day and age in any sport society.
Why do UEFA and FIFA do next to nothing to combat this?
Should racially abused players walk off the pitch?
Should they be penalised for doing so?
